Saving Money

One of the most common things we hear is that England is so expensive, but it doesn't have to be! So we have compiled some ways the locals save on eating out, shopping and seeing the sights!

  • Sign up to the Money Saving Expert newsletter. He sends out a weekly email letting you know ways to save money such as 2 for 1 restaurant deals and deals on days out. This is a great way to keep in the know! His website has loads of tips and forums.
  • Another good website is Which? They tell you who are the best businesses and how to save money. They also have a newsletter you can sign up for.
  • Teso Clubcard vouchers- if you are shopping at Tescos, get a club card and start racking up the points. You will get vouchers but don't use them on your shopping instead you will exchange them for restaurant vouchers, movie tickets even England Heritage membership. You will get more for your money. Other stores like Sainsbury and Homebase operate on the Nectar Card which is the same type of program.
  • Get a membership to the English Heritage. It costs £44 per year and you get free entry to any of their properties.
  • Sign up for emails from your favourite restaurants for updates on specials.
  • Go to the movies at Vue theatres on Tuesdays. Tickets start at £4.35.
  • If you are a movie buff, get an unlimited card from Cineworld. See as many movies as you want for £13.50 a month.
  • Keep an eye out for free days at the National Trust and sign up for their email newsletter.
  • Take advantage of the parks and footpaths. Pack a lunch and make it a day!
So don't let the exchange rate ruin your experience in England.
