Housing Terms

Some people get confused on the terms listed in the adverts for houses, here are a few translations:

• Flat- apartment
• Bungalow- single story house 
• Terrace house- townhouse
• Maisonette- apartment over 2 or 3 floors
• Semi-detached- duplex house or house on the end of a terrace
• Detached house- house not connected to anything else
• Mews house- converted stable to house
• Feature fireplace- has a fireplace but may not work/may be for looks
• Let- rent
• Reception room/entrance hall- foyer
• PCM- rent per month
• bedsit- studio apartment
