Cheese Rolling

The Cheese Rolling event probably has been around for hundreds of years and takes place on Copper Hill, Glouchester. This is very famous for people being injured on the way down. There are 5 downhill races and 4 uphill races.

The downhill race can have anywhere from 2 to 20 participants. They sit in a line on the top of the hill. An invited guest rolls the 7-8 lbs Glouchester cheese after a count of 3 and the people hurl themselves down the hill after the cheese. The first person to the bottom wins the cheese.

It was canceled in 2010 due to the fear of liability for health and safety so there has been unofficial cheese rolling that was held in its place.

It is an exciting event that I do not see going away regardless of the risks involved.
