The War of the Roses

Tudor RoseThe War of the Roses is what the fighting between the House of Lancaster (red rose) and House of York (white rose) that occurred from 1455 to 1487. It is called this because of the badges that the houses used. The houses were both branches from the same family, descending from Edward III.

The Battle Bosworth (22 August 1485) was the battle that kicked off the War of Roses. Henry (Tudor) VII defeated King Richard III. Henry had 5,000 men and King Richard III had 8,000. Richard III died in this battle and was the last English monarch to died in battle.
Henry VII (Lancaster) married Elizabeth of York to bring both sides together. He also merged both the roses and created the Tudor Rose.
